GRM $2003 Challenge - Event Journal

April 5th, 2003 - Gainesville, FL

The fun is over! They day went fairly quickly and was a success. We ran a 57.1 in the autocross/road race and think we did fairly well in the concourse. Unfortunately the "autocross" was more of a road race and all the big horsepower V8 swapped and turbo cars did a lot better then if it had been a true autocross. We will probably be mid pack. The car has performed flawlessly and is already on its way back. Brian and Frank are on their way to Atlanta for some work Brian has to do. We will be leaving shortly. We will update more as soon as we find out results.

April 4th, 2003 - Gainesville, FL

We are back at the hotel now, I have been uploading pictures with Justin. Ryan and Frank are getting the car ready for tomorrow's concourse and autocross.

Today was a pretty good day, we had the windshield replaced, put the graphics on the car and still made it to the track with lots of time to spare! Brian competed in the drags and was able to get a 15.83. Much better than the 19 second runs before the engine swap! Hopefully they will have the results posted at tonight's party. If they are I will post them before I go to bed.

Oh yeah, the weather is GREAT!!!

Brian and Frank made it! They arrived at about 1:30am with good news! Everything that needed to be fixed, was repaired except for the windshield! Now all we have to do is put the stickers on the car and find a new windshield...

April 3rd, 2003 - Gainesville, FL !

We have arrived! At least 3 out of the 5 of us have. Brian and Frank are with the car in Georgia, where they were attempting to replace a cracked windshield with the one from the parts car. Unfortunately the donors car's windshield did not survive the transplant! They are now, at 11pm, looking for a replacement. They are also trying to fix or replace a dead starter. We push started the car every time we stopped for the whole trip from Minnesota.

Justin, Ryan and I are at the hotel in Gainesville waiting. We arrived at about 5pm to get the team and car registered. With that taken care of, we hit the free happy hour in the hotel! Free booze! Can't beat it. We also hooked up with Brian and Rick who have brought a Scirocco to the event. The head on the engine of the car they were supposed to bring was machined incorrectly and they had to bring their fall back car from Connecticut.

The drive from Minnesota was long and fortunately, uneventful. (Other than the push starting!)

More updates to follow tomorrow!
