Team 6.003K to Campaign a 16V Audi 4000 in the Grassroots Motorsport $2003 Challenge

St. Paul, MN – Since July of 2002 Team 6.003K has been working to turn a humble 1985 Audi 4000S into a more capable road car destined to compete in the Kumho Tires Grassroots Motorsports $2003 Challenge.  Eight months later the car is mostly complete.  Powered by a VW 2.0L 16V motor stopped by four wheel disc brakes, suspended by H&R Sport springs, stiffened by a custom roll cage by Paul’s Cages, and dressed up in new paint the once humble and weak Audi 4000 is ready to begin it’s new life.

The car, a 1985 Audi 4000 began it’s tenure with it’s owner, Brian Hjelt, as a cheaper alternative to airfare back to Minneapolis / St. Paul after an aborted car buying trip to the deep south.  Facing more than $800 in return airfare the front wheel drive base model Audi 4000S was purchased from Brian’s uncle and successfully traveled the 1500 miles back to St. Paul, losing only an alternator along the way.  After sitting in Brian’s yard for a year, the car’s purpose finally became clear with the presentation of the opportunity to run the $2003 Challenge.

With the car prepared and mostly ready to go, the crew of five that make up Team 6.003K will depart St. Paul, Minnesota on Wednesday the 2nd with the intention to drive straight through to the competition in Gainesville, Florida.
