One Lap 2000 - Preparations

Final Thoughts

Friends and Family,

The time has come once again for us to partake in the One Lap of America. This year we are participating as team Racing for the Children, as we are once again raising money and awareness for the Save the Children organization.

Our vehicle of choice is our trustworthy 97 Volkswagen GTI-VR6. You can see pics on our web site.

We will be leaving Minnesota for Michigan on this Thursday and will pretty much be driving and racing every day until Saturday May 13th! We have set up a web site for all of you to learn more about the event and also so you can follow us along on our journey. We will be updating it several times a day and will add pictures every night!

We would also like to invite all of you to look at our Charity section and see if you might be able to contribute and help needy children here in the US and in other parts of the world.

Thank you very much!

3 more days and we will be hitting the road for Michigan and the start of the Y2K One Lap! Where does time go! The car is running better than ever thanks to the hard work of Chad and Steve at South Central Imports! We are significantly up in power and, with the new gear ratio, should be a quicker. All we have left to do is have the headers put on, get the car aligned, add some more stickers and, oh yeah, PACK!

April 24th, 2000

The chip for the 268's and VGi intake should be in today. Chad was putting the tranny back in this weekend and the intake and cams were done on Friday. What is left is to corner balance the car, get an alignment, throw in the new autocontrol harnesses, hard wire the Valentine 1 and mount and balance the tires. Oh yeah, and wash, wax, apply a bazilion stickers, Etc..... The car will be dynoed this Wednesday and I will post some numbers as soon as I get them. Hopefully I will also be able to make it out to a Corvette Club autocross this weekend just to get a little seat time and get a feel for the new layout of the car.

Well here is the car in the shop! Chad and Steve are hard at work putting everything together for us. The tranny is waiting for the new 3.94 and Peloquin LSD. The cams did not get shipped! They will be here shortly, I HOPE!! The rear swaybar has been installed as have the brakes. I also installed the Eurosport Cool-Flo and 8mm Wires.

More to follow shortly...

The car is still at Soutch Central Imports and Chad will start receiving all the go fast parts this week so he can start working on the car.
NO TURBO!! Yes, it is true! :-( Due to development and supply issues, Jeff at Velocity was unable to have it done for us in time. Oh well, it happens.
Instead of the turbo we will be running a Schrick VGI intake and 268 cams. This should hopefully put us over the 200hp mark. With the installation of a Peloquin LSD we will actually be able to make the most of what we will have.
I was able to experience Virginia International Raceway March 26th, and it was a blast. It is a very technical track with a lot of elevation changes and a couple of blind corners. I drove the track in a 2000 Mustang V6 Automatic...ARGGGHHH! What a PIG! I guess it served its purpose, as I was able to become familiar with the track. It was also great to be able to see old friends and meet new ones.

More to follow shortly...

IT IS ALMOST TIME!!! ONLY 50 days until the Y2K One Lap! Are we ready you ask?? Well, we're ready but the car is not. The car will be turned over to the talented hands of Chad Erickson and crew at South Central Imports (http://www.sciperformance.com) a week from Friday (3/25) for its make over.
It will be receiving the newly developed Turbo kit from Jeff at Velocity Tuning (http://www.velocitysport.com) as well as his big brake conversion kit which includes the 12.3" rotors, lightened flywheel, Dual Fiber racing Clutch disc and a clone Limited Slip Differential courtesy of Peloquin's Tranaxles.
Dick Chiang from Dynospot Racing (http://www.dynospotracing.com) will be getting us the 256 cams, and to keep it all running nice and cool, Todd at Air and Water (http://www.awetuning.com) is providing an Oil Cooler.
Oh, I guess I should mention that we will be running the 1997 VW GTI-VR6 we ran last year. We were working on getting an Audi S4, but that did not work out, so we are sticking with our old faithful steed from last year!
Thanks to my partner and Co-Driver Mike Potter (Virtual World Parts) (http://www.parts4vws.com) for working with Jeff on getting the Turbo and Brake kit. He also enrolled H&R once again this year as one of our major sponsors. VWofA (http://www.vw.com) will also be providing a contribution to the Save the Children on our behalf.

Oil and lube will be courtesy of Neo Synthetics through Mike Potter.

Once again we are working on raising money for the Save the Children (http://www.savethechildren.org) organization and need your support! We have set our goal this year at $10,000 so please help out! Send your tax deductible contributions to us at:

(IMPORTANT: Make sure to write your check out to Save the Children. And put One Lap of America on the comment line.)
